Weddings

Interior view from the altarInterior view from the altar A wedding is an exciting time in a couple's life as they embark on their future together. The venue for the big day is an important decision, and The Church on Oakwood is available to celebrate weddings. It is a modern building with full facilities and can hold up to 170 people. There is ample parking in the Oakwood District Centre car park situated a few minutes walk from the Church.

The Church on Oakwood is in an unusual legal position, in that it is not technically speaking a 'church' for either the Anglican or Catholic communities, but is instead a Worship Centre/Chapel of Ease. This has implications for weddings and means the usual restrictions about having to get married in your local Parish church do not apply. Therefore, those living in Oakwood are entitled to get married at the Church on Oakwood or any Anglican church in the surrounding area.

Our Ministers would welcome the opportunity to celebrate your wedding, be it using the Anglican, Catholic or Free Church rite of service, and can discuss any legal/religious requirements or issues with you, as well as offering spiritual guidance. Please feel free to get in touch with either Reverend Neil Draper or Father David Cain. Please note that it is usually necessary to give at least 6 months notice for a Catholic wedding.

Useful information about legal formalities can be found on the Derby City Council website http://www.derby.gov.uk/community-and-living/marriages/marriage-arrangem...
